Naper Settlement Field Trip

This year, our ELA curriculum has changed up a bit, which has given us an opportunity to cover new topics in reading and social studies that we didn't get to in past years. In 2nd grade, we learned about local history in our nonfiction unit this year. This allowed us to take a new field trip this year to Naper Settlement to compare and contrast how things are today, and how they were in the past.

Yesterday, 2nd grade boarded the bus to Downtown Naperville. We had a jam-packed day of learning about how different school, jobs, chores, houses, and many other things were different in the past. This hands on field trip was SO much fun for the students, and they really gained a deeper understanding of how things were in the 1800s in our area. It was so fun to see students make connections to the topics we've discussed in class, to things right in front of them.

Old Schoolhouse

Learning traditional social gathering dances

Log House

Carrying buckets of "water" to provide for their families

Naper Settlement Town

Making our own butter!

We loved this field trip, and hope to return in future years!
