New school year, new activities to get to know each other! We kicked off the new school year by reading the book, My Hands Tell a Story. This story is about a little girl watching her grandmother make bread, as the grandmother tells her grand-daughter all about her life and the things she has done to lead to where she is now. Some of these things were sister, nurturer, teacher, planter, mother, and love. The grand-daughter begins to think about what story her hands tell.
After reading, we talked about how our own hands tell a story about who we are. Students traced their hands and wrote down things that they felt described who they are. This included things like being a brother or sister, playing a sport, their culture, etc. They were able to draw pictures or write words, and color it however they wanted. Some chose to add color, while others chose to not.
We then shared our hands with our classmates to learn more about each of our stories.
