Art That Pops

The artist, Frank Stella, screams fun and excitement, with his swirls of bright unique pattern popping off the canvas. 2nd graders analyzed his artwork, and used Stella's artwork as inspiration for their own art.
Frank Stella's Art:

After learning about Frank Stella, 2nd graders also learned how to create different patterns. They were tasked with creating more complex patterns than just an A, B, A, B patterns that repeat two things. Instead of the usual stripe and polka dot pattern, students had to come up with 7 or more creative, complex patterns. They drew these patterns on a scribble drawing. Then students cut out these pattern scribbles, and glued them down to form a three dimensional paper sculpture. This took a lot of focus and fine motor skills as their patterns and cutting had many tiny details. 2nd grade was very proud of their results, and especially had fun during the gluing process, as many of them have never turned flat paper into 3D art like this before.
