"Maestro!"

Today students in third grade played a game called, "Maestro!" In this game students get to take turns conducting their very own classroom orchestra. We have been studying notes on the lines and spaces of the treble music staff we chose boomwhackers as our instrument since they can make different pithches. As each maestro got to the front of the class (orchestra) they held our special baton and got to point to each different note and create their own masterpiece.

There are many things I love about this game for learning music and even more things I love about it due to how much fun they have! Each maestro gets to take charge and create something of their very own. They get to feel like the teacher in that moment and have total control of the class. This is a great way for students to have a healthy sense of power. This is also wonderful for ALL students! No matter their ability level, they can all be successful because there are no wrong answers and no matter how they conduct the orchestra it sounds uniquely great.

Every student was focused on the maestro and they were having a blast. I can't wait to play this again with them and get even more conductors up to lead their own song. Below are some pictures of the leaders in action. Bravo!
