Our Many Moods

Occasionally the winter can bring on feelings of cabin fever or even the blues. As an adult, we tend to have an easier time identifying these feelings. We are also better equipped navigate these feelings that result from less sunshine and colder temperatures. However, children can have a more difficult time identifying these feelings. Some children are not sure what is making them misbehave, act out, or just have some sad days.

GoNoodle is a program that some of the teachers in our school use as a brain/movement break. These videos range from silly and fast-paced to somewhat serious and tend to be more deliberately slow moving. One video I discovered today was perfect for helping children put a name to their feelings and gave them the chance to "walk" these feelings, or "moods" out.

By defining what the different moods are helps the children to better understand their feelings at a given time. If they understand their feelings they may be better able to express their thoughts through the use of words and not default to unwanted behaviors. Below are some photos of a few moods we discovered today and a video of the children "walking" them out.
