In Science, we learned about how plants make their own food. This process is called photosynthesis. We played a game about photosynthesis and discovered that plants use energy from the sun to change water and carbon dioxide into food matter. We learned that plants need energy to grow, move, and make seeds.
In the game, students had to "grow" a plant by gathering sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide chips. Students drew cards which described how their plants were growing. For example, one card read, "Chance of Rain: Take 1 water chip or 1 sunlight chip." The first team to "grow" the plant won! Partners worked together to discover how plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to grow.

Groups discuss their strategies for making a "plant" grow. |

Here's our game board. |
Partners work together as a team. They discuss how to grow "roots" and "leaves" on their game board.

Science can be fun! These partners are excited because they almost won! |

More groups play the Photosynthesis game. |
After the game, students wrote about what they learned. Finally, we discussed our learning as a whole class.
