This year, in celebration of 100's Day, our 6th graders were able to take part in two 100's Day Celebrations.
Our first was with our Kindergarten Buddies. This day is a
very big deal to them, so in preparation for it, we helped them count...to 100...of course. We made two footprints, placed the first somewhere in the building,
walked and counted 100 steps, then placed the second footprint where we ended.
There are footprints all over our building. It was great to walk down the hall
watching the buddies walk hand-in-hand while counting. Not only did they practice their counting, but a lot of good relationship building went on at the same time.
Our second activity was our own writing. Students took a
glimpse into their futures and wrote about when they turned 100 years old and
what their lives were like to that point.
They wrote about where they live now and where they lived
throughout their lives. Many looked back at their brilliant careers. We had
many doctors, lawyers, and scientists. There were a few singers and actors in
the group, also. And of course they all made tons of money, traveled to exotic
places, and owned many mansions.
I loved many of their accomplishments because they showed
their dreams. Dreams they believe are in their future. Some of the
accomplishments included:
*Having their
own family and being there for them.
*Winning the
Noble Peace Prize for being the state's best Veterinarian.
*Winning a
Dance Contest.
*Marrying the
love of their life.
*Winning a gold
medal at the Olympics.
*Stopping the
Zika Virus.
Some dreams are a little loftier than others, but nonetheless, still their dreams!
After we wrote we took a look at how we may look when we are 100
years old (see pictures below) using the app Old Booth.
It was fun to see how the kids see their
futures.
