Each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Goodrich students gather after school for the variety of programs we offer. This year students are able to choose from three different classes: Mathletes with Mrs. Wojtowiczk, World Cultures with Miss Sun and Miss Thill, or Study Hall with me, Mrs. Strejcek! The ages in these classes rotate as the year goes on, and many students take the opportunity to try each of these options.
Study hall provides our students with the opportunity to dedicate extra time to work or content of their choosing. Siblings, technology, and all of this snow can make getting work done at home difficult for even the most studious. The quiet environment in our library gives the kids a chance to relax and truly focus on their work. Many of our after-schoolers use this time to complete their reading logs or to practice math concepts they are struggling with. On especially exciting days, students will bring in larger projects they have been working on. These can be fun to watch grow and change as they bring them each day. No matter what students have to work on, they all keep busy for the hour we have together!
I feel very lucky to supervise our after school study hall, because it means I get to see and work with students of all ages. This is a great chance for me to get to know some of the younger faces in our school and to help out the older faces I already know. One of my favorite pieces of study hall is watching the students help one another. Many of our fifth and sixth graders offer to help our younger students by creating math problems for them or helping them read. It’s a great opportunity for students to see themselves as leaders and teachers too!
Study hall has provided numerous Goodrich students with the chance to focus, work, and assist their peers; it's a wonderful way to spend the last hour of each school day!
