Completing Real World Tasks is part of our math
curriculum. In our geometry unit, the
children were to plan a party. Their
first task was to design an invitation using 2-D shapes. The second task was to play the Solid
Surprise game where a child reached into a bag and described the solid shape by
feeling it and describing its attributes.
Task three involved designing a cake that could be divided into equal parts
for 3 guests and the student to enjoy.
The children needed to write an explanation of the shapes used and
how they knew to cut it into equal
shares.
