Real World Math Experience

Completing Real World Tasks is part of our math curriculum.  In our geometry unit, the children were to plan a party.  Their first task was to design an invitation using 2-D shapes.  The second task was to play the Solid Surprise game where a child reached into a bag and described the solid shape by feeling it and describing its attributes.  Task three involved designing a cake that could be divided into equal parts for 3 guests and the student to enjoy.  The children needed to write an explanation of the shapes used and how  they knew to cut it into equal shares.
Connor is explaining to his elbow partner what he had done to the cake before he wrote it.

*The video is sideways--sorry, some days are just like that!
