At Goodrich we enjoy having cross grade level buddies. It builds such a wonderful relationship between students in the school who may not normally cross paths.
This year, we didn’t just stop at cross grade level buddies…we partnered with the junior high and did an ongoing activity digitally with the 8th grade Graphic Arts class at Jefferson Junior High.
We started with a task. The first graders were asked to create a drawing of a monster. We gave our monster a name and character traits (which went perfectly with our reading unit!!)
We sent over the design to the Junior High students and they got right to work! They soon sent us a digital representation of the pictures we made. The first graders were in awe of how their imagination came to life with a digital creation that looked just like the drawing they created.
We then went on to send videos back and forth to our partner sharing feedback and what we would like them to add or change in their design. The first graders felt like valuable teammates through the entire process as our feedback came to life in the junior high students' work.
We ended the assignment with a goodbye video. We thanked each other for the hard work on both sides and we said goodbye for now!
Scroll through this video to see the working document that we used as our template for this project.
It is not everyday we can partner with another school and do a worthwhile project that requires creativity, collaboration and tech savviness, but we sure nailed it!
