Camping in Kindergarten

With summer right around the corner, what a better way to countdown to those fun filled days and nights with camping…in kindergarten!

The students walked into their classrooms this morning to see a new addition; tents in the classroom. They worked with their tent group to collaborate and make posters that display the different things you can do while camping, discussed different living and non-living things you might see during a camping trip, and read a book with a familiar character called Tacky Goes to Camp by Helen Lester. The kids had so much enjoyment doing these activities and getting into the camping activities.

There were also a lot of conversations that we had about camping responsibilities. One student made a connection from their scouts group about “not leaving a trace” when you go camping meaning that we should always clean up after ourselves. The kids said that sounded a lot like our classroom expectations.

They left today saying how excited they were to see what they would do tomorrow.
