As we get back into the routine of school and home balance, we are all experiencing a range of emotions. While some of our students were very excited to be at home with their families, they also experienced a range of emotions about missing school, their friends and their teachers for a long two weeks.
An activity that I discovered and am very much looking forward to sharing with the students is all about the range of feelings and emotions we all go through seasonally, monthly, daily or even minute to minute. To start, I introduced the book, "In My heart," by Jo Witek with illustrations by Christine Roussey. The book shares about one little girls journey through some of her biggest emotions. Once we read the story we shared out, when comfortable, some of the simililar emotions we have had, just like hers.
Our next step will be to utilize classroom instruments and props to show what those feelings could sound and look like. Each group will have a different emotion based on one of their teammates stories that they are willing to share. I am very excited to see what each group comes up with and to let them show off their creativity and learn more about their own emotions as well as learn that we all experience those same types of feelings each and every day.
