Have you ever heard of Ishi? If you have, you would understand why
the third graders in Mrs. Hall’s class have rocks on their desks!
Ishi is a book written by Akiko Yabuki and is told from the point of view of a
rock named Ishi. Ishi is a solid friend that gives solid advice about spreading happiness
and being happy.
We carefully picked out our favorite rock and put a smiley face on it with
a marker. We made a house for our rock and we are keeping it safe on our desk.
When we are feeling a little out of sorts, we have solid advice from Ishi:
-When I feel stuck—I tell myself to move forward, not backward
–When I feel like I just need a break–I take a break
-When I feel like I am the only one who is different–I remind myself that
everyone is different
-When I feel unhappy- I smile. Happiness will follow!
(A. Yabuki, Ishi)
Happiness is for everyone–pass it on.
