Last week Ms. Hilb's class was learning about all of the wonderful people who work in our school. We had a visit from our wonderful nurse Ms. Guzman, and we got to go on a gingerbread hunt to meet Mr. Ortiz! Our gingerbread man joined our class for the first time on Wednesday. We read a book about him and he joined us for circle time. The next day we went to greet him and he was missing! We immediately put on our looking eyes and went looking for him. We walked all around our room and down the halls and asked everyone we saw if they had seen him, but no luck. Then we decided to knock on the boiler room door to see if Mr. Ortiz had seen him. Mr. Ortiz invited us in and told us a crazy story about how our gingerbread man was trying to chase him! We found the gingerbread man on Mr. Ortiz's filing cabinet, and once he was safe and sound we realized that we were in a super cool new place. None of us had every seen the boiler room before so we started to look around. Mr. Ortiz explained that the boiler room is where all of the hot water for our school gets heated up for us to use. He also showed us some of his tools and told us all about his job. We learned that Mr. Ortiz is the one in charge of making sure our school stays clean and safe. He cleans up messes, fixes things, and makes sure our school is a safe place to learn. We are so thankful to Mr. Ortiz for everything he does for our school (and for finding our gingerbread man). Next time you see Mr. Ortiz in the halls make sure to tell him thank you, I know we sure will!
