Importance of Coaching

The 4th and 5th graders have been working on their recorder karate unit since before the winter break. As a part of the unit they have to rely on their partner for coaching and tips on how to improve their playing. One of the ways we do that is to use a Kagan structure called Rally Coach.

The students take turns playing through a song they are working on. While one student is playing the other student should be listening and watching their partner perform. When they finish playing the partner who has been listening should provide them feedback on how to make the sound better the next time. They then switch roles and continue on this way until they are ready to test for me.
