Yoga!


For the after school program I have been teaching students yoga and meditation practices.
I believe that students need to be given the opportunity to learn different strategies to cope with
the stressors in their lives. So often you hear people say they are just kids, and that they don’t
understand real stress. However we know that is not true. The stressors in their lives are real and
can impact them emotionally, physically, and socially. It is important that students learn how to cope
with things that can be challenging to their lives. 

During the time students would tell me they are leaving more relaxed and calm or they were practicing at home Some even gained some flexibility along the way. The students even worked together. There were times where we would do partner yoga or they would work in pairs and model new poses for the group. Overall the students found the time calming and worked to let go of the day and release their stress through meditation and yoga!
