Attending the Theater

3rd grade students attended a field trip at North Central College to see an adaptation of the “ The Jungle Book”. The students were very excited to attend the theater and really enjoyed the play. Aside from being out of school for a half day, there are many benefits for students to attend a play.

Exposure to theater fosters an appreciation for the arts. Seeing a college production can spark students’ imaginations which can lead them to be more creative.

Many students haven’t read nor seen the movie, The Jungle Book. Seeing the play not only introduced them to the story but also gives them the opportunity to discuss character traits. This ties in with the current reading standard they are working on in class.

Attending a play at a local college allows students to develop a sense of connection with the community and an appreciation for the fine arts. For many students, these school field trips are the only time they will see a play or enter the local theater.

The students were incredibly well behaved at the theater, despite having to wait for a while before the show started.  They were respectful and we're proud of how well they represented Goodrich School. Then again, what should we expect? That is the #grway!
