Special Visitors in Kindergarten

Over the last two weeks, our Kindergarten classrooms buzzed with excitement as we welcomed three incredible community helpers: a lawyer, a cardiac nurse, and a veterinarian. These visits were not only a highlight for the students but also a memorable way to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.

Before their visits, we spent time talking about what community helpers do and why their work is important. The students shared their ideas about how these helpers make our community safer, healthier, and kinder. Armed with curiosity and a list of questions, they eagerly awaited their special visitors.

Our first guest that we welcomed was a veterinarian. The students learned about what she does for her job, what kind of animals she helps, and even saw some cool tools she uses! The veterinarian also shared a fun fact: she gets to help clean the teeth of TIGERS! What an interesting part of her job; the students were in awe.

Our next guest was a lawyer. Dr. Broncato, our school district superintendent, came to talk to our Kindergarten classrooms about his time as a lawyer and describe what he used to do for his job. The students got to put themselves in the shoes of a lawyer and argue their "case" on whether or not they would like to eat lunch in the gym or in the classroom. The students had so much fun learning about the importance of lawyers and getting a chance to be a lawyer themselves.

Our last guest was a cardiac nurse. Mrs. Buche, mother of Mrs. McGovern, came to Kindergarten to talk about her job as a cardiac device nurse. The nurse explained how our hearts work hard to keep us alive and healthy, and why eating good food and staying active are so important. The students got to see a real model of a heart, learn about the importance of a nurses job, and ask lots of questions!

Our visitors left a lasting impression. Through their stories and hands-on activities, the students gained a deeper understanding of these vital roles in our community. Even more importantly, they saw how each helper uses their unique skills to make the world a better place. The day sparked curiosity, empathy, and big dreams in our young learners.
