Over the last few weeks first grade has been working through a March Madness Tournament of Books to determine the funniest picture book. Each day students listened to a set of books and voted on which one they thought was funnier. Sometimes the voting ended unanimously and sometimes there were tight races! We narrowed down our book choices until there were only 2 left. Our championship round came down to Chester by Melanie Watt and Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett. The winner was Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett!
Each day before students voted, they shared with a partner which one they thought was funnier and why. This has been an amazing connection to our opinion writing in which students are being asked to explain reasons for their opinions. The infectious giggles have been a great way to start each day!
