Games in Math
We all love playing games, so why not make learning more fun and engaging by playing. We have been reviewing some math skills by playing games. Last week, we learned how to play Battleship (with a twist) by hiding ships around a hundreds chart and taking turns guessing numbers to find the ships on their partner's board. The best part of the game is that they do not even realize how much place value, addition, and subtraction they need to use when they are trying to find the ships. This week, we learned how to play War. We are quickly counting, identifying munbers, and comparing numbers. Not only do students get a lot of consistent practice reviewing some important math skills, but they are also learning social skills. These games require turn taking, problem solving, and sportsmanship. They learn to congratulate their partner on a good game whether they win or lose. This all sounds like a win win to me!
