The Gingerbread Man

We had a very exciting surprise this morning when we arrived at our kindergarten classroom. The Gingerbread Man was there with a note for us. He left us a coloring page to work on and asked if he could rest in our room since he had been running and running and running from the fox. He asked if we could keep it quiet and even whisper so that he could nap. We did a wonderful job with this request today!

In honor of our special guest, we decided to make everything we did Gingerbread themed! Our day started with writing. We brainstormed and wrote/drew a hiding spot that we could share with The Gingerbread Man when he woke up. We then moved into phonics and phonemic awareness with some beginning sound and cvc word practice. There were new stations with gingerbread games for syllables, matching letters and sounds, initial and final sound games, and a rhyming game. We read a few different Gingerbread stories and retold the story with pictures and compared the characters, repeated phrases and endings.

When we got back from lunch we were thrilled to see that The Gingerbread Man was still in our room, but many students wished he would wake up! We continued the fun in math by measuring gingerbread men with gumdrops and graphing. We ended the day with a gingerbread craft, but the most important question from the students was; do you think he will be here tomorrow?
