Special Guests and “Whoosh Ball”
In our Early Childhood/Preschool Classrooms, we will occasionally have special guests visit our classroom to share a special talent with our students. Sometimes the special guests are staff members, an outside visitor or a parent. On Friday, 9/15, we had a very special guest come to our classroom to share her special talent of things she can do with her hands, which aligned to our Creative Curriculum focus question of the day, “What can we do with our hands at school?”
Our parent guest, Katie Eberhardy, shared a fun game with our students using their hands. First, she told them they needed to put on their “Imagination Hat” to get started for their game. Then, she took a “Whoosh Ball” from her pocket and gave one to each student. Once each student had their Whoosh Ball, they were shown what to do with their new toy. Children were shown that the Whoosh Ball can get really, really big, or very, very small. They can throw it high towards the ceiling, or bounce it on the ground. Sometimes it’s sticky and sometimes it’s smooth. They can put the Whoosh Ball on their head or on their feet. The options of what you can do with a Whoosh Ball are never ending!
This was a wonderful activity to do with our preschool students. The children really enjoy themselves learning about opposites, using their imagination and making suggestions of what to do with their Whoosh Ball. This would be an excellent brain break for parents and teachers. It was a quick, no prep, no clean up, very engaging activity that the children really enjoyed.
