Any Way You Try It...That's Math!

One of my FAVORITE things about teaching math is that students can solve the problem in different ways and still arrive at the same answer!

One student may be a visual learner and wish to draw a picture to solve the problem. One student may work better with physical manipulatives, and yet another child may want to explain her thinking in words. Math allows for each of these types of learners to choose the path that is best for them and take it to the correct answer!

In order to help students learn that there are multiple ways to get to an answer and multiple strategies to do so, we spend a lot of time in first grade building that toolbox of strategies.

You will see in the pictures here that students are already filling that toolbox with multiple ways to show learning and thinking. Math manipulatives, whiteboards, markers, colored counters, Chromes, Braining Camp and SO much more!

We may be little in first grade, but we are building some BIG foundational math skills!
