This week, we focused on understanding how to write a ratio in three ways as well as creating equivalent ratios. Students focused on saying whether or not the ratio was a part-to-part, part-to-whole or whole-to-part ratio. We used braining camp as a tool to have a visual/hands-on approach of solving ratio problems. This allowed students to draw ratio tables and use shapes to make a comparison between two things. Once they were able to understand this concept, they were able to connect it to making equivalent ratios.
Later in the week, we moved on to using equivalent ratios to create a tape diagram. We used story problems in order to pick apart the important information needed to finding equivalent ratios. Student's used Kami to highlight important parts of the problem to help guide them. They were eventually able to draw the tape diagrams to represent their answers. When they were able to independently do this, we did a numbered heads together to work as a team to continue solving ratio problems.
Finally, students completed an exit ticket to check for understanding and completed a Zearn lesson that ties into the next lesson.
