Garden of Support

Today my worlds collided! As teachers in W68, we are always encouraged to find time for our passions to share with students, and today was my day! After school, I coach a competitive high school dance team, and two of my students are currently part of an organization called Student Visionaries. Their team, Garden of Support, has a mission to raise $50,000 for cancer research for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Not only is that for a great cause, but it will also help benefit them when applying to colleges soon.

They have held fundraising events to help reach their goals, but part of their campaign is also community involvement. This is where my 2nd graders come in; they were looking for kids to make cards and flowers to deliver to cancer patients, and I knew just the kids for the job!

My girls came this afternoon and taught the 2nd graders all about how important it is to help others. They taught them how to make paper flowers, and wrote well wishes that will be delivered to patients struggling with leukemia or lymphoma. This was a really powerful activity for the students, and was really special for me to share my classroom with my "big kids!" 💖
