Engineering in Kindergarten

Kindergarten has been hard at work the past few weeks learning all about what it takes to be an engineer! Through our Force & Motion science unit, the students have had the opportunity to explore different concepts such as pushes, pulls, and what it means to be an engineer. The goal of our unit is to find out what makes an object move and use this knowledge to build a pinball machine!

In the lessons completed so far, the students have had many hands-on experiences where they are working with a partner, experimenting with materials, and discussing their findings. The students have discovered that engineers test questions in order to find out more information about the project they are working on.

This past week, the students have built the structure for their pinball machine, added a rubberband to be the “launcher, and practiced moving the ball short and long distances. This upcoming week, the students will work on shooting the ball left and right, adding a target to their pinball machine, and adding bumpers to keep the ball in motion. So many fun things ahead for these Kindergarten Engineers!
