For our final reading unit, fourth graders learned about the American Revolution and the beginnings of our country. Students learned about historical events such as the Sons of Liberty, Paul Revere and his midnight ride, the Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party. They learned how to read like historians, identifying the structures of a text (compare/contrast, cause/effect) to help them take organized notes and support their thinking.
During this unit, students worked in teams to teach others about one of the events leading up to the American Revolution. Teams conducted research and created a Google Slides presentation to demonstrate their learning. Once all teams were finished, 3rd graders visited to listen to the presentations, giving them a sneak-peak into what they'll be learning next year. Also, each research team created an assessment (Blooket) for 3rd graders to play after presenting, reviewing what they had learned. Fourth graders enjoyed being teachers for a day and representing their hard work and knowledge.
