Meet the Monarchs

 Students in first and second grade at Goodrich are introduced to the Monarch Award books in January. This is a list of twenty books that are fiction and non fiction. There are picture books, chapter books and graphic novels. The list is created by a team of teachers, librarians and parents who are interested in introducing good children's literature throughout the state. They begin with a list of 100 books that are based on kid appeal, literary merit and representation. That list is then whittled down to the final list of twenty. 

Monarch Award Nominees 2022

Students begin reading in January and complete as many titles as they can by the beginning of March. Kids who have read at least five of the books are invited to vote for their favorite. The results are tallied and we have a Goodrich winner! Those votes are then sent to the state to join other participating schools. Those votes are tallied and we then have a state winner.
