By now, most of you are aware of the once-in-a-lifetime day we all experienced this week: Twosday, 2-22-22! The date filled with 2's was fun, but the fact that it fell on a Tuesday made it that much better and definitely got the students excited! Of course, we had to celebrate this day with a bunch of "2's" activities in math, writing, and our free time.
In celebration, we integrated fun transitional activities into our day, but our whole math class revolved around the number 2. The students were each given a math task card that involved the number two in some way.
Some examples of questions include:
- Find something in the room that measures exactly 22 inches.
- Using two operations, write two math equations that equal 22.
- Count by 222 all the way to 2,220.
- Create a pattern using the number 2.
The students had 2 minutes to complete the task on their card. When the two minutes were up, the students did a Stand up, Hand up, Pair up to find a classmate with a different card and then trade their cards. The students then returned to their seats with a new task card to complete in 2 minutes. At the end of class, students had a chance to share their answers and thinking. This was especially exciting since there could be different answers for some of the tasks, like the problems involving equivalent fractions. Students were excited to share their different answers. We had a great discussion about different ways to answer many of the questions.
This was a fun way to review many past concepts in math. The students worked hard and had a lot of fun.
