Class President in Third Grade

It's an exciting time in Third Grade! This unit in social studies, we are learning about leadership, and what it takes to be a good leader.

This unit, we took time to learn about great leaders throughout our history, as well as our current leaders both in the United States and other countries. The kids had watched videos, researched leaders, and even wrote papers on why they would be a good leader within the classroom!

The kids had a blast writing these, and really had some great things down on their papers. Their job was to come up with at least three reasons why they would be a good class leader, and write a paper about their reasons. They had to come up with realistic things and expectations in the classroom that they would be able to control. Each of their papers were typed up, and each child was given a random number to put on the bottom of their paper. After each child was finished, the paper with the numbers were printed up, and they did a gallery walk to read each paper before voting on the best one. The students were then able to vote for the best paper, and the winner of this challenge became our class president, with the runner up being vice president.

The kids really rose up to the challenge of coming up with good leadership skills and reasons why they would be the best leader. Congrats to our President and VP!
