In kindergarten, we have continued to add in a fun literacy aspect into our weeks for our students to learn about classic fairytales, nursery rhymes, and stories. We have worked to pair these stories with a STEAM activity to further the learning.
For Fairytale Friday, our focus was the nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. This was one that many of the kids knew already and they were happy to sing along with this nursery rhyme. We paired this nursery rhyme with astronomy and the kids learned about stars and constellations. The kids learned about how different star formations create patterns in the sky that you can identify. The students also learned about the background for how some of the star constellations were given their names. The students really enjoyed learning this new information and at the end, they were able to make their own constellations that they attached to a scope where they could view what these constellations might look like.
