Our friend, the Gingerbread man, has made a visit to Kindergarten this week! Kindergarten has loved reading his notes each morning, reading about the Gingerbread adventures in various stories, and participating in all the Gingerbread learning activities.
Each morning, the Gingerbread man visits the Kindergarten rooms and leaves a note for the students. The note usually has some sort of activity attached, such as candy cane hunts for sight words around the room. These notes keep us on our toes because we never know what the Gingerbread man is going to say or where he will move to in our room!
We have been reading various versions of the Gingerbread stories during our read-aloud time. These include The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Boy, The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Baby, and The Gingerbread Cowboy. Kindergarten has loved reading various versions of this story and comparing them to find similarities and differences between the characters and storylines.
We have also tied Gingerbread into our Eureka math lessons! We have practiced counting groups of cookies, making candy cane patterns, and measuring the height of different gingerbread men.
We even had the chance to make our own Gingerbread men. One of our tasks from the Gingerbread man in his daily morning note was to give our Gingerbreads a speech or thought bubble. We had fun thinking of all the different things that ours would say!
We are looking forward to all the fun activities the Gingerbread man will lead us on for the remainder of the week!
