College and Career Fridays!

Fridays at Goodrich are spent building an awareness and understanding of what it means to be college and career ready. All students and staff are encouraged to wear college or career attire and students spend time learning about one college or career each week. We say students need to be ready for college and career, but do students really know all that is awaiting them once they are finished with high school? By having these discussions, students are learning about different opportunities and are able to make plans to work toward goals that they have.

When researching a college, students explore the website to find information such as location, mascot, tuition, top majors, and interesting facts. Through this research we find the college on a map, learn about loans and scholarships, acceptance rate, and what careers stem from certain majors. Students are submitting colleges that they are interested in learning about and one is chosen each week.

We spend one Friday a month, learning about a career. In October we did a virtual visit with a family member of Goodrich teacher who shared about his career as an Electrician and Mechanical Equipment Supervisor. He shared with students his trade school experience and other work that prepared him for this career.

Last Friday a 6th Grade parent visited to share about his career as a System Engineer. Students enjoyed learning how he chose this career because ever since he was their age, he has had a passion for computers and how they work. He stressed the importance of perseverance and continuous learning.

We look forward to learning about more colleges and careers in order to prepare for the future!
