"Balloons Over Broadway"

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of the most iconic Thanksgiving celebrations dating back to 1924. "Balloons Over Broadway" by Melissa Sweet tells the history of the parade, as well as the story of Tony Sarg, the puppeteer who created the famous helium balloons.

This week in fourth grade, students read "Balloons Over Broadway" and . In honor of Thanksgiving break approaching, we met with our second-grade buddies to create our own Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons. Students brainstormed with their buddy cartoon or movie characters they could create. Then, using items such as toilet paper rolls, construction paper, markers, and tape, students brought their ideas to life.
