Creativity in Kindergarten!

Miss Buche’s Kindergarten class has been loving our SEL focus for this week: CREATIVITY! Although our week is just starting, we have learned about what it means to be creative, how we can show our creativity, and even put our creativity into practice.

Being creative means coming up with unique and new ways to think about or do things. Kindergarteners discussed ways to be creative in the classroom, as well as at home. One of the most important things that we talked about was that there is no WRONG way to be creative!

We made a “creation station” in our classroom, where students have various options to choose from to create their own work of art. The students had free choice on what they wanted to make and what materials they were going to use. Their favorite part was doing a “mix, pair, share” to share what creation they made!

Kindergarteners also created their own superheroes! We talked about what their superhero costume would look like, what their super powers would be, and how they would help save the world around them. We used "rotating lines" to share with multiple classmates all about the superhero they created.

Our activities for the rest of the week are making our own inventions, using objects other than paint brushes to paint (flowers, sticks, leaves, etc.) and reading many stories about being creative.

Our favorite quote from the week:

“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.” -Mary Lou Cook
