Learning through exploring

A big part of kindergarten is that the students are entering the beginnings of their academic journey. Here at Goodrich, we believe that kids learn best through experience and exploration. This year, we have found extra space in our busy days to find ways to pair some of our favorite stories with interactive explorations where the kids are able to apply cross-curricular learning and understanding with STEAM related content.

In the past couple of weeks we have had to pick up the pieces for Humpty Dumpty and put him back together again. The band aids sure did the trick!

We read The Ugly Duckling and explored the ways that things can sink and float. We took it a step further and the kids led their own investigations on figuring out what things actually sank or floated. We were shocked by our results.

This past week we looked into the nursery rhyme, Little Miss Muffet and focused in on the spider that scared her away. We talked about webs and why they can be a spider's most valued resource. As a class, we made our own spider web and tried to make it through with out getting stuck.

The kindergarteners have loved this creative outlet and being able to connect to stories or nursery rhymes that they have already heard before. We are excited to continue learning and growing throughout this year and already off to a good start with the things we have been able to explore.
