Animal Research in 3B

3B is in the heart of our second informational reading unit. In this unit, students are using their knowledge of informational texts and text features to research an animal that they care about! This is a very engaging task for our 3rd graders.

From start to finish, students have taken ownership of their own learning. Students selected their resources, selected their own subtopics, and organized their own notes. Students are even creating their own glossaries filled with important topic-specific vocabulary.
Recently, we have begun taking a closer look at the facts within their research and have begun to write their own thoughts, or conclusions that they can draw based on the facts they find within their sources.

I am SO impressed with the effort that these students are putting into their research. The next step in this process will be for students to present their information to their classmates. It is very exciting when students are learning from their peers!

Here is a "Fun Fact" that one student included in her note taking!
