Red Blood Cells! Circulate!

Since February is American Heart Month I decided that this would be the perfect time to set up the Heart Adventure Course in PE for a week.  This is an amazing, hands on, interactive learning experience for our students.  Their job is to act as a Red Blood Cell circulating around the heart, to the lungs, to the brain and to the rest of the body.

We have spent the past few days talking about how our body needs oxygen and the red blood cells carry that oxygen and our heart pumps it throughout our bodies.

The students are learning where to feel their own pulse and and they even have the opportunity to use an Insta-Pulse stick which tells them how many times their heart is beating each minute.

Watching them this week and listening to what they say about "needing oxygen" or going through a specific chamber of the heart is awesome!  I am even using the Pocket Heart app to show them what a human heart looks like and how the blood gets pumped through the heart.
