10,000 for the Troops

On my way school, I was listening to US 99.5 where I heard a campaign they were running called 10,000 for the Troops. The goal of this campaign was for the radio station to try and collect 10,000 cards to send to the troops overseas to wish them a happy holidays. Myself and the other six grade teacher, Mrs. White, thought this would be amazing to introduce to the students to see if they would be interested in participating.

The excitement was radiating throughout the room. Students from both classes volunteered to take on specific roles to make this as successful as possible. Students delegated people to go speak to specific classrooms, create a script for those students to read, and students to email Stylz & Roman from the radio station.  Students got to work right away and the feedback was incredible. The students who had emailed Stylz & Roman received a response immediately stating that they would love to come to Goodrich to pick up the cards that we created.

Student representatives went around to all classes from Pre-K all the way to our own sixth graders explaining the mission of this campaign. Very soon after, cards began rolling in. They were extremely thoughtful and heartfelt. The card count then reached our whole school total of 391 cards.

When Stylz came to Goodrich, he was extremely complementary of the hard work the students put in with organizing this at our school. He was even able to record students reading their cards so he could play it on the radio the next morning. The students were so excited the next day as they entered the classroom the next morning! We are extremely proud of the sixth grade students for organizing this campaign. These cards truly brought joy to the soldiers fighting overseas for our freedom during this holiday season.

I hope everyone has a happy holidays and a wonderful winter break!
