Sixth graders at Goodrich School were fortunate to take a trip to the
Chicago Symphony and Chicago Art Institute a few weeks ago. The field trip, set
up by Ms. Clark and Ms. Jacobs, is something we do every year. When it comes to
opportunities to enjoy the arts, we are fortunate to have Chicago so close
by.
Our trip began at 8:30 as we left the parking lot for our
adventure. The bus ride was great, with lots of singing, asking truck drivers
to honk their horns, and a short commute time! We ended up at the Chicago Symphony
twenty minutes before our show.
One of the best parts of the Symphony is the place we get to
sit every year to hear the concert. Students sit in the balcony above and
behind the performers. We watch them as they warm up and throughout the
performance. Our kids seemed to thoroughly enjoy the performance. There is
something about classical music performed by these incredible musicians that
truly affects the soul! You could see that in the faces of our students.
After the Symphony we headed across the street to the Chicago
Art Institute. With a collection of more than 300,000 works of art, the Chicago
Art Institute is ranked the third-best museum in the world. People come from
all over the world to see the beautiful exhibits like the Chagall Windows, the
Neapolitan Crèche, the miniature house settings, and the new Rodin
exhibit. Our time was short at the Art
Institute, but students were given a family ticket to head back to this museum
any time within the next year.
Our trip ended with a much quieter bus ride home and a late
lunch at Goodrich. The day was fun and
the kids really got to see the “Power of the Arts” first hand!
