Words with Friends

It all starts with letters next comes  letter sounds, then words.    After words comes sentences then paragraphs then books.  Each group I meet with  are working on becoming better at reading many  different kinds of words. There are so many rules for reading.   All of my students  have been working on remembering some of the rules of words  to become better readers.

First grade workers in need of practicing the letter names and sounds work daily so that they can make it to the next step.  Second and Third graders work on wh,th words  and  the sounds and the
sound that  y makes at the  end of words such as try and very.

Sixth graders work on inferring what certain words mean in both fiction and nonfiction passages and books.  For example, we came across the word skeptical in one of the passages we read.  Through the use of inference students were able to prove what the word meant and  were able to explain why the character acted that way.    Strengthening  these skills will  assist student to become better readers. Words are everywhere!
