The Buzz of Sports

All year long I talk to the kids about sports!  What season it is.  Who is playing.  How our Chicago teams are doing.  Any "big" stories that are going on.  And so on...   Once in a while you can really feel the buzz of the sports world circulating around the school with the students.
The Blackhawks have created some buzz over the last few years.
When the Cubs were in the World Series there was a lot of buzz. (GO CUBS GO!)
And recently... March Madness!
We follow the tournament, talk about games, upsets, who we want to win, etc.  Sometimes as a teacher you feel like you are just talking and the kids aren't really soaking up what you are trying to get across to them.  This was not the case.  Before spring break and especially Monday and Tuesday of this week I had kids constantly talking about basketball!  (SUCCESS!)

"Did you see that Duke lost?"
"What happened to Villanova?"

"I am cheering for Michigan."

"Who are you rooting for?"

"When is the next round of games?"

"Sorry Mrs. Weber... Gonzaga lost."

It was so fun!  The conversations, the excitement, and the questions - I couldn't be prouder!

One of my goals as a P.E. teacher is to get the kids interested in sports or to at least know a little about what is going on in the world of sports.  Sports are a huge deal in the United States and across the globe.  So whether you are a die-hard fan or not, you should at least have an idea of what people are talking about.

I can't wait for the next "buzz" to go through!
