Read for Yourself and for the Read-A-Thon

Reading, we LOVE reading, we LOVE lots and lots of READING! The students have come so far this year in second grade with their ability to read. And that is through practice, practice, and more practice. As with anything, practice makes perfect! And some of the fruits of their labor are phenomenal! At this point in the year, the students should have seen about a .75 increase in their reading level because we are three fourths of the way through the year. However, our average increase is a whole year’s growth – Yay! One-third of our class has grown a year and a half, and some students have improved with over two year’s growth! I have noticed that these are the students who are reading each night, and come to school ready for an AR quiz each day. These are the students who are focused and reading during independent reading time. These are the students who have a book out whenever they have free time. These are the students who are proving that practice makes perfect.

Right now we have begun our annual PTO sponsored Read-A-Thon. This gives students the opportunity to practice reading for themselves, for AR prizes, and for prizes from the Read-A-Thon. The PTO is very generous and supportive to our school, and we would like to support them in this important fund raiser. Your child received information in his/her Friday folder about the Read-A-Thon. If you haven’t had a chance to READ about it, please look it over and support it if you can. The Read-A-Thon supports our school goal of 20 minutes of reading per student each night. The Read-A-Thon begins this Friday and lasts until Sunday, April 23rd. Even if your child cannot raise pledges for the Read-A-Thon, it is still important that they read and track their minutes so that each class can reach their class goal. Thank you for your support! And KEEP READING!
