Last night was one of my favorite
nights at Goodrich School, Family Reading Night. It is amazing to see how many families
come out and support this event. This year, the theme of the night was STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). All of the books being
read fell into one or more of those categories and also had great lessons to be
learned such as never giving up. There was also a STEM activity in the
beautifully renovated LRC. During this activity families worked together to
build the tallest tower with a set of given materials. It was incredible to
watch families work together and see their innovative strategies for building.
This night is a great opportunity for families
to come out and spend time together. It is also a chance for students to hear a
story from someone who isn’t their parent or classroom teacher. Even Dr.
Scaletta read a book! This event allows us as a staff to further encourage our
students to read outside of school and reinforced the importance of reading.
