Fairytale Friday in Kindergarten

Every Friday in Kindergarten we learn a new classic fairytale, nursery rhyme, or story. We pair these with a STEAM activity to further the learning and add engagement, teamwork, and problem-solving. The students love getting to learn new stories and songs, as well as engaging in some interactive activities.

This week, the students learned the nursery rhyme "Little Miss Muffett". We talked about rhyming words and what frightened Little Miss Muffet (the SPIDER!). The students also got to take part in a little Mystery Science exploration where we learned about different types of spiders and what types of adaptations they have for where they live in the world.

For our interactive activity, the students worked as a class to create their own spider web! The students used a ball of yarn and passed it across the circle to create their web. After the web was created, the students had an opportunity to try and make it across without getting "trapped" in the web. There were many laughs and creative ideas for getting across without getting stuck in the sticky web!
