Who doesn’t like to hear a compliment or kind word? Our class loves to give and
get compliments. We brainstormed a list of compliments and character traits that
would be nice to hear– then armed ourselves with tape, paper plates and markers.
We taped the plate to our backs, got the hair out of the way, uncapped our markers
and began.
Students were instructed to walk around the room and write positive things about
their classmates on the plates. The tricky part was to write something that had not
already been written.
their friends were writing about them. They could feel their friends writing on
the plate but they couldn’t see the words!
In the end, students got to take off their plates and read all of the nice things their
peers wrote about them. I could tell this was a meaningful activity as many
students taped their plate to the back of the chairs for the rest of the day.
