In Kindergarten, writing looks different for every student, especially at the beginning of the year. Some students are working on drawing detailed pictures, some are working on labeling pictures, and others are ready to write their own sentences! This week, Kindergarten is writing a story about going on a hayride. The focus skill of writing this week is having a beginning, middle, and end to their story. Each day, the students are working on a new part of their story, or adding more details to a page from the previous day. At the end of the week, the students edit their story to make sure it is ready to be "published".
After the students finish their writing each day, they have a chance to do a Mix-Pair-Share with their peers to share the best part of their writing from that day. Some of the ideas shared included different details they added to their pictures, how hard they worked on spelling a sentence, and even being able to form certain letters correctly in their sentences. It is amazing to see how proud the students are of their work and how much they can learn from their peers by collaborating on their writing.
