In reading students have been working on the skills of vocabulary, retelling stories, and finding the central message in a story. Each week we focus on a different book and do activities to work on these skills. The first day the students hear the story we go over vocabulary words throughout the story. On day two students listened to the story a second time and used retelling props to retell the beginning, middle, and end of the story. On day three the student’s job is to find the central message, or lesson, from the story.
This week we had some fun with the book Spookley the Square Pumpkin. After students completed each of these three tasks they created their own Spookley the Square pumpkin craft. They worked on our reading skills and also had a chance to add a little of their own creativity into the project. I think they turned out pretty great and we had a lot of fun!
