A break path! Students did research and found similar ideas that other schools had created before, and the students thought this would be the best way to help other people in the school. We started by writing persuasive letters to Mr. Wolcott and Dr. Bowers to explain to them why we need a break path, and convince them to help us with our project. We mailed the letters, and after some time we were surprised by a visit from Mr. Wolcott and Dr. Bowers to announce that they purchased a break path for us!
After that, we had A LOT of work to do! We cut out all of the pieces, and then had to work together to make a plan for the path. Students worked together to clean the floor, and everyone had a chance to lay the pieces down on the ground.
Our final step was to educate the rest of the school on what our project was, and how to use it properly. Students practiced a speech that had information about the path, and they each had a chance to go to a different class in the building (Kindergarten through 6th grade!) to present the information to them. I was SO impressed by how brave they were to present to other grade levels, as well as how much pride they take for their project. They did a wonderful job throughout the year working on this project, and have created something that will benefit all students in Goodrich and will leave a lasting impression on our school.
