Are you ready for some Hockey?!

I love hockey.  It is fun to watch, fun to play, and the skills are different than many of the other skills we use throughout the year, which makes it a exciting, new challenge for us!

Last year was the first year I had done a hockey unit with my 4th, 5th and 6th graders.  I had previously taught hockey at a middle school, but just hadn't worked it into my curriculum here at Goodrich yet.  So I decided it was time!  And it went awesome!  I could not wait to do it again this year, and many 5th and 6th grade students had been asking me all year long if we were going to do it again!  We officially started hockey on Monday and he have been working on our stick handling and shooting skills all week to get ready to play some lead up activities and games next week!

I also have decided to work some "Noodle Hockey" into the primary grade levels.  We will use cut off pool noodles as our hockey sticks to move yarn balls around the gym.  This will be a very safe, easy way to start teaching these manipulative skills using an implement before they get to the real hockey stick in 4th grade!
